Every new italki learner gets 3 discounted Trial Lessons. Teachers who offer trials set their own trial price, and that rate is usually lower than their regular lesson cost. You can use each of your 3 trials with a different teacher.

Share your unique referral link with someone who has never used italki before. Once they buy $20 or more in italki Credits, you earn $10 in Credits and they earn $5. The catch: the new user must activate the referral within 24 hours of registering. Also, each person can only receive the referral reward once — it's a one-time deal per account.

Professional Teachers start from $10 per lesson and are better suited to structured learning, exam prep, or business language goals. Both types can charge up to $120 per lesson depending on their experience and demand.

Credits stay valid as long as your account is active. If you don't log in for 12 consecutive months, they expire. The good news: you can get them back — one reactivation is allowed by contacting italki support, as long as the credits expired less than 12 months ago. After that single reactivation, they stay valid for another 12 months.

Some teachers offer lesson packages at a lower per-lesson rate compared to single-lesson bookings. It's not guaranteed across all tutors — each teacher sets their own pricing — so check the package tab on a teacher's profile to see if they have one.

Packages do come with an expiry date. If a package expires before you finish, the unused lesson credits return to your italki wallet so you don't lose them entirely.

#italkiRefresh is italki's year-end celebration campaign. Learners share their annual learning stats on social media using the campaign hashtag to enter prize draws. The draws are announced in early January, with prizes that have included italki Credits. italki posts the entry details on their social channels in late December — watch for the campaign post to get the current year's specific steps and draw dates.

Use the price filter in the italki teacher search and sort from low to high. Community Tutors at the lower end of the price range are the fastest route to affordable lessons. Also filter by “Trial Lesson available” — this shows teachers who offer discounted first lessons, so you can sample a tutor at a reduced rate before booking a full session or package.
